Project in focus: BASKERVILLE

Baskerville will go down in Blakes history for a number of reasons, least of all as one of the projects that our amazing team of designers, carpenters and fitters delivered during the height of the pandemic.

Together with a trusted team of architects, contractors and interior designers whom we’ve worked with many times before, an effortlessly calm, peaceful, light-filled sanctuary has been created in a leafy city suburb.

Scroll down to take the tour of the ground floor. If you like what you see, wait till you see our follow up post! We will take you on a tour of quite frankly one of the most epic playrooms in South West London!

If, like us, patience is not one of your virtues, head on over to the contractors website, Mascot Bespoke, where you can see images of the whole home. If the bathroom doesn’t make you a little green with envy, you’re either not that fussed by dreamy design, or an incredibly nice person!

This architecturally striking Victorian villa underwent an 18 month long redevelopment to almost double its internal footprint. In doing so, a home was created that offered the homeowner multiple living spaces with unique characters and functionality.

The ground floor was knocked through and extended to create a large light-infused open plan kitchen diner with lounge area.

In contrast to the sitting room at the front of the house, the living space at the back of the home was designed to be somewhat more informal. With views out onto an expansive garden backing directly onto a large common, it made sense to emphasise this unique natural aspect. A soft pallet of calming neutral tones was chosen to complement the seasonal colours in the garden and in so doing create a warm effortlessly chic family living space.

The tall joinery was painted in Slate V by Paint and Paper Library, a rich off-white shade with hints of warm grey. This colour is a firm favourite of ours and is a particularly versitle shade of paint which sits well as a transition between the pale oak timber flooring and the deep greys within the veining of the worktop stone.

To add depth to the scheme and to tie in the greys from the worktop, the island unit was painted in a darker shade of grey; Green Moss from Little Green.

A fun and unusual detail within this kitchen is the hidden pantry, or ‘The pantry that Covid built!’ as we’ve dubbed it.

This pantry wasn't part of the initial plans. But as the client entered into the first lock down they decided that they would like more storage space and we created this beautiful hidden pantry for them. Accessed via a tall unit on the sink run, this discreet little room houses an additional fridge/freezer, a second dishwasher, and some delightful slatted vegetable storage boxes.

For the sake of consistency the detailing in the hidden larder is similar to the main kitchen, with the same worktop stone and joinery painted to match the kitchen island. We did, however, introduce white metro tiles to make for a fun contrast to the sophistication of the primary kitchen. We particularly love the chalk board wall, which is not only highly useful, but a fun way for the kids to leave their own mark on the space.

The breakfast larder is oak-lined with dovetail-jointed drawers to match the internal joinery within the kitchen and living space.

Despite it’s natural appearance, a composite stone, Xtone Nubia White, was used on the worktops, shelves and splashbacks. An incredibly hardwearing product, it offers more stain resistance than a natural Calcutta stone making it very practical for a family home.

The same stone was used on the shelves in the living space to create consistency and to tie the two parts of the room together. And while the joinery uses the same profile detail and bronze hardware that you see in the kitchen, a panel detail was added to the door fronts to help zone the spaces.

You may have already spoted the same panel detail on the bespoke banquette seating at the dining table. And for the eagle eyed, the matching fabric used on the bench seat, comes back again in the living room chairs. Details details!!

We hope you’ve enjoyed the tour of this beautiful space.

In the meantime, from the Blakes family, wishing you a happy and relaxing summer season.
