A designers Xmas wish list 2021

Last year we shared a selection of items that our design team were coveting for Christmas.

Back by popular demand, this year we have collated a selection of items for the home that the team have been lusting after. Only time will tell how naughty or nice they have been this year…

TOM MARTIN BAUBLE from £20

Senior Designer, Katherine McElwaine, has a touching tradition of gifting a delicate Tom Martin bauble to a family member each year.

Remarkably these hand-blown baubles are painted by hand on the inside, making them the ultimate artisanal Christmas decoration. An heirloom of the future for the lucky recipient.

For something a little more whimsical for her own home, Katherine fancies the brass duck lamp pictured further below. Standing 900mm tall, this fun talking point reminds her of the Indian Runner ducks that roam around her childhood home in the West Country.

TWENTY TWENTY ONE CLAY HEADS £45

Somewhat unsurprisingly, our award winning furniture designer and Head of Technical Design, Hugh Leader-Williams, went back to his roots and chose the stunning Iklwa chair from Benchmark Furniture as his most desired piece of 2021.

If budget doesn’t stretch, Hugh has suggested that Santa could make him happy with these cute decorative clay accessories from Twenty Twenty One.

LIGHTING

Inspired by Decorex, where this year lighting was huge, no less than six members of the team from different disciplines chose lights, all be it at very different price points!

ANGLEPOISE £209

LAETUS DESIGN £126

ALDEMAN

LIMITED ABODE £345

J ADAMS & CO £456

COX LONDON POA

KITCHEN TOOLS

ILLY ESPRESSO MACHINE £616

Lead Designer, Oana Sandu felt that starting 2022 with the ability to make a proper espresso at home, would set her year off on the right note. We tend to agree! Her chosen Illy stainless steel Italian design masterpiece would look the part on any kitchen work surface.

Our Australian CFO, Kristen Edwards has her eye on a Meeter. With this wireless thermometer Kristen will be able to BBQ her Christmas Turkey to perfection without any need to brave UK winter temperatures to check on the bird.

Self-confessed foodie and Blakes MD, Jeremy Bott, had the Meeter on his list last year, but when Soho House released the Gyuto All Day Knife he pivoted fast. The excitement was palpable!

Unable to regularly fly back to South Africa for her aunt’s home baked bread, Technical Designer, Dulcy DePonte E Sousa, thought the Ooni pizza over would be the next best thing.

MEATER £79

OONI £399

ALL DAY KNIFE £180

ACCESSORIES

Technical Designers, Vanessa Torres & Reuben Ward are all about tablescaping this year.

They hope to accessorise their dining tables with these on-trend salt and pepper shakers and the iconic Alessi nutcracker for that extra Christmassy vibe.

JONATHAN ADLER SALT & PEPPER CELLARS £82

PERFEX SALT & PEPPER MILLS £125

SUNDAY & STORY DOORMAT £37

BRAMWELL BROWN CLOCK £360

THE NEW CRAFTSMEN BOWL £255

ALESSI NUTCRACKER £125

Lead Designer, Annie Ebenston wrote her Masters dissertation on the grandeur of arrivals, so it seems fitting that she chose a tastefully scalloped doormat to welcome her guests this Christmas.

And if Santa is feeling especially generous, then one of these weather forecasting clocks would be very much appreciated too!

TRAVELLING BASKET DRIED FLOWER ARRANGEMENT £16

Hopefully some of these items have given you a little inspiration this year!

From all of us here at Blakes London, we wish you and your families the happiest of Christmases and we look forward to what is set to be an exciting 2022.
